It's become almost a cultural mantra. Ask parents what they want for their children and the answer is almost universally the same: I just want them to be happy. For most of us it begins even before our children are born. How many times have you heard expectant parents say they don't care whether the baby is a boy or a girl as long as it's happy and healthy? Hoping for a healthy child is reasonable but some experts say you should re-think your pledge for your child's total happiness. Apparently, it's overrated.
Is happiness harmful? It seems ridiculous to consider the idea. After all, none of us want our children to struggle with friendships or have to deal with the other difficulties of life. Isn't it our job to make sure they don't have to deal with these troublesome things?read more | digg story

Happiness is
Happiness is...
Different things for different people
That's what happiness is!
So go the song lyrics. But like you, I feel problems with being an ordinary soul. I'm a ghost writer who uses and sells other people's ideas. But I would like to be famous someday, although for now I like living in virtual obscurity. It keeps my glasses clean and my nose wiped.
That makes no sense. Happiness is a state. In order for something to be harmful it must be an action. The harm is the result of the action. Now you might ask something like, "is always being happy harmful?" In this case there is an action...being happy.

Happiness is not harmful unless your happy at the expense of others. It is our duty as parents not just to raise happy children but to raise them as loving and considerate individuals.
